Cocodrilo

What it is: A “comfortably uncomfortable” spot (see: this gallery of deliciously spicy red chiles) just outside the River City, serving Latin American-inspired and “curated, ever-evolving, chef-driven” cuisine.

Why we love it: Almost entirely because of the heat radiating from that description above, but also because they say “all events call for queso” (yes, correct), their menu features everything from Hatch chile salsa to lobster enchiladas, and the restaurant itself is oh-so bright and festive. It opens Wednesday, March 9, and we’ve already got our orders ready.

Where to find it: 5811 Grove Ave (Westhampton)

What it is: An accessories-and-apparel boutique that showcases pieces made by women, for women. (Happy Women’s History Month, ow!)

Why we love it: It’s Black-owned, it’s woman-owned, and it’s a shop that understands the hustle of growing a small business and wants to exist as an expression space and collaboration space for other small businesses. And because it sells this chunky necklace, this lapel suit, and this off-the-shoulder number. I.e., Add to Cart, Add to Cart, and Add to Cart.

Where to find it: 306 E Grace St Unit A (Jackson Ward)

Richmond Black Restaurant Experience

What it is: A week-long, food-and-fun lovers’ bash, running from March 6 through March 13 and highlighting Richmond’s minority-owned businesses.

Why we love it: The RBRE elevates minority-owned businesses by marrying culture and cuisine, giving attendees “a deeper understanding” of our city and its culinary background. There are 40 participating restaurants (including newer Richmond residents, like Brun and Suzy Sno), and there are dozens of events to enjoy all week, too.

Where to find it: Richmond City and its surrounding areas; click the link below to ~learn more~.
