The Trendspotter: November 2024
We’re back again with your monthly dose of must-know news, The Trendspotter! This content series features monthly roundups of the newest and hottest businesses (namely, restaurants, bars, and then some!) around RVA.
There’s much more than green bean casserole on the table this month.
Baltik’s Bagels
What it is: A new spot to add to Richmond’s growing list of bomb bagel shops
Why we love it: There’s a full menu of mouth-watering options here, but personally, we’re heading straight for The Smokeshow when we visit — scrambled eggs, bacon, melted smoked Gouda, hot pepper cream cheese, chipotle mayo, hot honey, everything softie bagel.
Where to find it: 6801 Forest Hill Ave (Stratford Hills)
Maven Theory
What it is: Where we’ll be going for all our favorite local scents all month long and beyond
Why we love it: We love local shops Maven Made and Sun Theory, and this spot combines both brands into a set-up for their shared concept, Maven Theory. At this dreamy in-store space, you can buy Maven Made, Sun Theory, and Maven Theory goods, plus *lots* more. The owners curate other items from small businesses all over the country to further emphasize Maven Theory’s destination-based, wanderlust-y, adventuring feels.
Where to find it: 4028 MacArthur Ave Ste A (Bellevue)
Scotty’s Taphouse
What it is: A concept bringing new life to the former Slingshot location
Why we love it: Expected to open v soon, this new biz from the same owners as Southern Railway Taphouse promises exciting renos, a full-service kitchen, live music, and diverse entertainment in Scott’s Addition. Here, you’ll find highlights like duckpin bowling, retro arcade games, and a self-serve beer wall of rotating selection of local brews.
Where to find it: 1304 Mactavish Ave (Scott’s Addition)
Ruby Scoops
What it is: A more expanded space for one of Richmond’s go-tos for sweet treats
Why we love it: Ruby Scoops recently had its grand re-opening in Northside. The expanded tasting room (which now lives just a few doors down from the orig location) offers 16 rotating flavors at a time, homemade waffle cones, space for 50 seated guests, and an outdoor patio. You can also still enjoy six- or nine-scoop flights, *and* Sno Balls are available to order, too.
Where to find it: 310 W Brookland Park Blvd Suite 100 (Northside)
The British Embassy
What it is: An English-inspired restaurant that specializes in fish and chips and other classics from across the pond
Why we love it: Owners Joy Supanya and Jon Niemiec, Joy’s UK-born husband, brought this concept to life after much success serving fish and chips for lunch at their Henrico spot, Thai Won On. Stop by for bangers and mash, fried fish sammies, sausage rolls, and sticky toffee pudding, or as they told Richmond mag, “the world’s best dessert.”
Where to find it: 1116 E Main St (Downtown)
