Hiya!👋
Well? Hocus Pocus 2? What did you think? Are you startin’ to feel the reason for the season?
We sure are! We’ve got our sweatshirts on, our seasonal candles burning, and the mellocreme pumpkins are aplenty (like, definitely for me, Kelsey. I may be in that last camp alone, tho. Sam? Paige??)
RVA is in the spirit, too. Our Insta and local news feeds are packed with Halloween and autumnal plans galore, and we’ve got another rundown of things you should put on the cal for the coming weeks (even months!).
Keep scrolling for RVA’s latest social news, including where to get a car wash and a good fright, what to eat for dinner on Halloween, how to score free tickets to a show at The National, and more.

Aaron Kroll and Trey Cherry: They’re the founders of Sterling Point, a mergers and acquisition advisory firm that was recently recognized at the very top of the Richmond BizSense RVA 25 list, which highlights the region’s fastest-growing companies. Sterling Point “far outpac[ed] the rest of the pack with 15,326 percent revenue growth from 2019 - 2021.”
THE LATEST:
THIS IS HALLOWEEN (MONTH)
Let’s all go to the lobby: LC Cinema and The Byrd Theatre are coming in clutch this Spooky Season. The pop-up cinema and the Carytown icon each released their October line-ups, and they’re chillingly good. Enjoy Eyes Without a Face, Under the Skin, Scream, Halloween, and many other frightening flicks this month. AND don’t forget the snacks: LC Cinema hosts its viewings at various locations around the city (Pizza Bones and Second Bottle are on deck), and at The Byrd, you can grab a beer with your popcorn (or candy, if that’s more your style). (LC Cinema, Instagram)
Demonic possession and vampires and beer: Profs and Pints has set the stage for some spine-tingling lectures for weeks leading up to Halloween. On Tuesday, October 11, Leigh Ann Craig, associate professor of history at Virginia Commonwealth University, will host Demons, Humors, and Medieval Minds, “a fascinating look at how medieval people decided whether a given individual was suffering demonic possession or a humoral imbalance such as melancholy, mania, or frenzy.” Then, on Tuesday, October 25, Stanley Joseph Stepanic, assistant professor of Slavic languages and literature at the University of Virginia, will host The Life of the Vampire, a lecture on “the origins of vampire beliefs, which date at least as far back as the 9th century A.D.” Each talk will take place at Triple Crossing Beer - Fulton. (Profs and Pints)
Candy corn meets cornhole: Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity is hosting a Halloween Corhole Tournament. Take your costume for a test-drive on Saturday, October 15, and head to the Libbie Mill area to participate. Your registration includes two drink tickets, and there will be both a morning and afternoon league and prizes. Proceeds support this year’s Women Build event. Donate to the cause and get your tickets here. (Give Butter)
Dinner party plans: The Broken Tulip and Garden Grove Brewing and Urban Winery are teaming up to host you and your crew for dinner on Halloween, Monday, October 31. Tix are 60 bucks per person (requiring a $10 deposit when you book) and include one drink ticket in addition to some other good eats and drinks. Each dinner course will be paired with a five-ounce tasting pour — with more tasting pours and drafts available for purchase — and the setting’s cozy seating will have you eating and drinking communal-style with other ~spirited~ dinner guests. FUTURE PLANNING
We’re not jingling bells already or anything: But just so you know, William Fox Elementary School launched its Christmas tree sale benefiting the school’s teachers, students, and families, and registration for the Better Housing Coalition’s Gingerbread House Challenge closes on Sunday, October 16. Trees are available for pre-order only and can be picked up on December 2 and 3, and Hardywood Park Craft Brewery will host the gingerbread party, which coincides with the release of their popular Gingerbread Stout. In expansion news: Goatocado and Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden recently announced plans to expand. The “happy food” restaurant will set up its next shop in Forest Hill, offering similar menu items to its location in the Fan. Timing is TBD, as owner Ian Newell acknowledges his other ongoing projects and the current state of the restaurant industry. Lewis Ginter, on the other hand, will be stretching its sprawling gardens to its neighbor Lakeside Baptist Church’s 24,000-square-foot property. That move will happen in July 2025.
