Yellow Umbrella Provisions - Libbie Mill

What it is:
The next location of this specialty grocery store, offering sustainably-sourced seafood, pasture-raised meats, house-made prepared foods, locally-sourced provisions, and a curated selection of wine and beer.

Why we love it: This spot started as a yellow umbrella stand, and now we’ve got two brick-and-mortar ways to access its casual, coastal vibes. Stop by before or after your next visit to Libbie Mill Library, and look forward to another Yellow Umbrella Provisions location popping up this summer — and featuring the co’s first full-service restaurant!

Where to find it: 5001 Libbie Mill E Blvd Suite 135 (Libbie Mill)

LOSO

What it is: A new concept for Richmond’s underground dance-music scene, taking place of The Jungle Room’s digs.

Why we love it: When there’s a disco ball (or several) involved, you can count us in from the start. The Jungle Room had a cult following in RVA, so we know this new concept will inspire the same. Splurge on a new pair of dancing shoes, because you’re gonna need ‘em with this revamped spot’s sound system, enhanced dance floor lighting, and stacked DJ line-up.

Where to find it: 2727 W Broad St (The Fan)

What it is: An amazingly delicious spot for Chinese food and more.

Why we love it: Generous portions? Reasonable prices? Attentive staff? Chinese cuisine and poke bowls? Say less. The restaurant that’s moved into Eatery’s former space leaves little to be desired, with its mouth-watering eats and drinks. So far, locals say the poke, bubble tea, and General Tso’s chicken are must-orders.

Where to find it: 3000 W Cary St (Carytown)

Smoke & Barrel

What it is:
The Southern-cuisine-inspired cocktail lounge and restaurant for small plates filling in for Lady N’awlins.

Why we love it: Long-time New York Deli bartender Kevin Sheffield is bringing this concept to life, along with Joe Hadad and Jordan Noble. Expect his award-winning cocktails, and dishes from chef Andy Jones like pork ribeye with pimento cheese grits and collard greens. The opening date is slated for Monday, April 15. Clear your cal.

Where to find it: 2329 W Main St (Downtown)

Julia Child: A Recipe for Life

What it is: The latest must-visit exhibit at Virginia Museum of History & Culture.

Why we love it: This display takes you through a multi-sensory journey of Julia Child’s personal evolution and our country’s culinary revolution. Enjoy an interactive “The French Chef” television set, the sounds and smells of Julia’s kitchen, a meal at La Couronne — where Julia had her first French meal — and many other artifacts and photos to explore.

Where to find it: 428 N Arthur Ashe Blvd (Museum District)
