Hi, everybody! 👋
I’m not gonna lie to you: It’s 10:45 pm on Tuesday night as I (Kelsey) write this, and I just got back from the Dirty Heads show at Virginia Credit Union LIVE!
Which was stellar, by the way. But that’s a late night for a mid-ish 20-year-old like me! (I’m 33.)
So, between my late night and your early morning (you do get up right at 6 am when this hits your inbox, right?!), we better just get straight to the facts. It’s another great week to be a Richmonder, and we’re going to tell you exactly why. Read on for all the need-to-knows for these next few days.

THE LATEST:
FESTIVALS & OTHER SHINDIGS
More summer-y, tomato-y goodness: We can’t get enough! From Supper | Summer | Somm to the upcoming (and fan-fave) Hanover Tomato Festival, we’ll take all the ‘maters we can get this season. Head to Pole Green Park this Friday and Saturday (July 15 and 16) to fill up on the red-and-juicy veggie (*fruit?) and enjoy live music, various vendors, family-friendly activities, a tomato-eating contest, and more. (Richmond magazine)
You’d be happy to attend this din: Happily Natural is hosting a pop-up dinner at the end of this month. On July 24, diners can enjoy the Feast de Renaissance: Black Food Matters — “a grassroots outdoor experience crafted to honor the revolutionary spirit of resistance and to inspire one of the most obvious ways we can empower our communities.” The event features a three-course meal and an urban garden tour, and it supports Happily Natural Day, an annual summer festival in RVA, celebrating natural hair, holistic health, and black awareness and featuring lectures, workshops, vendors, performances, and then some. (Eventbrite)
Give a little bit of heart and soul: The Richmond Black Restaurant Experience’s beloved festival HeART & Soul is back in town soon. Head to City Stadium on Saturday, July 30, for live music and art, incredible eats (BBQ, comfort food, Jamaican and West Indian options — to name a few), and a variety of activities (some of which are kid friendly, too). Tickets start at just 10 bucks. (Instagram)
The boy who turns 42: Starr Hill Beer Hall & Rooftop is throwing a birthday bash for Harry Potter on Sunday, July 31. Enjoy a movie marathon, wear a costume (if you want to compete for a prize (or just if you want to)), play some trivia, and grub on some TBT El Gallo tacos and Karmalita’s sweets. (Instagram)
DO-GOOD-FEEL-GOOD PLANS
Christmas in July: Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond is celebrating Christmas in July with a 12-day raffle fundraiser. Now through Monday, July 25, you can purchase raffle tickets and be entered to win a variety of prizes and packages from dozens of Richmond faves, including Brambly Park, Buskey Cider, Gelati Celesti, and way, way more. Proceeds support the org's "mission to keep families together while their child receives medical care in a local area hospital." (Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond)
The Richmond legend who turns 158: HandsOn Greater Richmond is hosting a Maggie Walker Day of Service this Saturday, July 16. Honor the life and legacy of one of RVA's very own by volunteering to pick up trash and enhance community gardens throughout Jackson Ward. Maggie Walker was born on July 15, 1864, making this a great way to celebrate the icon's 158th b-day. (HandsOn Greater Richmond)
